			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Assessor Award Course Overview 2012.</span></strong></p>
<p>Introduction</p>
<p>Assessment qualifications are changing and by 2015 the award will be known as AG30200 with two distinct units which require guided learning hours. The level 3 award in assessing competence in the workplace is a practical based qualification intended for assessor’s who assess occupational competence in an individual work environment and is mapped to National Occupational Standards.</p>
<p>The award as mentioned is divided into two units:</p>
<ol>
<li>UV30564 – Assess occupational competence in the work environment, which has a credit value of 6, and requires 30 Guided Learning Hours.</li>
<li>UV30563 – Understanding the principles and practices of assessment, which has a credit value of 3, and requires 24 Guided Learning Hours?</li>
</ol>
<p>The course consists of the following:</p>
<p>A two day introduction to the award in a classroom environment which introduces the candidates to the two units and the award.</p>
<ul>
<li>Creating a portfolio of evidence which is seen as the prime source of evidence to achieve the award.</li>
<li>A one day workshop in the candidate’s workplace.</li>
<li>An observation of the candidate(s) performing assessments in the workplace</li>
<li>Completion of the awarding body record of assessment handbook (under the supervision of the trainer).</li>
<li>Support from the trainer to the candidate to achieve the award.</li>
</ul>
<p>The award also covers the following areas as part of the ongoing support.</p>
<p>Mentoring and observation of the candidate conducting assessments in the work environment (Minimum of 3 assessments).</p>
<ul>
<li>1 observation by the trainer of the candidate.</li>
<li>Evidence of contributing to standardisation of company processes and procedures.</li>
<li>Examining products of work</li>
<li>Questioning of the learner</li>
<li>Witness testimony (Use of others)</li>
<li>Recognising prior learning</li>
<li>Understanding evidence requirements</li>
<li>Recognising other people involved in the assessment process.</li>
</ul>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>OVERVIEW</strong></p>
<p>The Engineering Supervisor initial course is designed with the focus upon the role of the delegate within the scope of implementing safe systems of work, whilst attaining and understanding of how to utilise the available resources required whilst working in a T3 Possession, including safe working practices and controlling train movements.</p>
<p>This course is essential for personnel who are to conduct Engineering Supervisor duties whilst setting up a work site within a possession and which may include engineering train movements.</p>
<p><strong>COURSE DURATION</strong></p>
<p>2 days.</p>
<p><strong>NO. OF DELEGATES</strong></p>
<p>Up to a maximum of 6.</p>
<p><strong>COURSE PRE-REQUISITES</strong></p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>That the candidate currently holds a valid Sentinel Safety Card.</li>
<li>That the candidate’s suitability has been verified by their line manager.</li>
<li>It is the responsibility of delegates’ management system to ensure that the delegate currently holds a COSS competence.</li>
<li>That the candidate is in possession of a current competency Logbook.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>DELIVERY</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>The course will be presented by approved trainers in the classroom using the accompanying visual aids, Power point presentations and simulated classroom assessment sessions.</p>
<p>Other appropriate visual aids can be shown and discussed, sufficient time being allowed to answer delegate’s questions and points of discussion.</p>
<p><strong>COMPETENCE</strong></p>
<p>The training will be followed by theory and practical assessments.</p>
<p>Successful delegates will be recommended for assessment of competence under their Employer’s Competence Management System.</p>
<p><strong>COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES</strong></p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>To understand the role of the Engineering Supervisor and under what circumstances they may be appointed.</li>
<li>Be able to interpret reference documentation, plans and what information will be provided during a pre planning meeting.</li>
<li>Implement procedures applicable to GERT 8000 – HB 12 Issue 1</li>
<li>Understand the importance of briefings and communications protocols.</li>
<li>How to conduct emergency protection of a railway line.</li>
<li>Identify and understand the role and appointment of a PICOP or SPICOP.</li>
<li>To be able to follow clear procedures before, during and after the commencement of the work</li>
<li>Correctly identify protocols to be followed when organising or initiating all train movements.</li>
<li>State hand back, suspension or over running procedures including change over protocols.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>CERTIFICATION</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>Upon successful completion of the course and any additional modules the National Competency Control Agency (NCCA) will be informed of a decision of competence and the candidate will be issued with a new Sentinel card stating ES.</p>

This is the entry level qualification for anyone who wishes to work in the rail industry. If you expect your work to involve maintenance or repair of the track or affect track geometry then you would need an extra level of competency. Please see TRACK INDUCTION. This document specifies the subject matter to be covered in the course and gives guidance on how it is to be presented.</p>
<p><strong>COURSE AIM</strong><br />
To instruct staff on correctly determining their responsibilities and duties when working on<br />
or Near the Line.</p>
<p><strong>NO OF DELEGATES</strong><br />
The MAXIMUM number of delegates permitted is 12 for the classroom sessions. For the<br />
practical session a maximum of 6 delegates can be taken ‘On or Near the Line’ by one<br />
trainer.</p>
<p><strong>OBJECTIVE</strong><br />
At the end of this course delegates will be able to:<br />
1. Demonstrate their ability to interpret correctly the Rule Book GE/RT 8000 Series or<br />
Personal Track Safety Handbook (TSH) and relevant local instructions when<br />
required to go ‘On or Near the Line’.<br />
2. Demonstrate their understanding and ability to follow a Safe System of Work.</p>
<p><strong>COURSE SESSIONS</strong><br />

<p><strong>DELIVERY</strong><br />
The course will be presented by approved trainers in the classroom using appropriate<br />
visual aids and supplemented by the <strong>MANDATORY </strong>trackside visit and assessment.</p>
<p><strong>COMPETENCE</strong><br />
The training will be followed by theory and practical assessments. Results will be<br />
forwarded by the training provider to the NCCA for issue of a Sentinel Track Safety Card.<br />
A ‘Temporary Track Safety Certificate’ <strong>can </strong>be issued if required in accordance with<br />
Sentinel procedures/rules.</p>
<p><strong>PRE-REQUISITES</strong><br />
Candidates must meet the medical requirements detailed in the current issue of Network Rail Specification<br />
NR/L2/CTM/021 Competence &amp; Training in Personal Track Safety<br />
Meet the requirements for a negative pre employment drugs screen detailed in the current<br />
issue of NR/L1/OHS/051: Drugs &amp; Alcoholissue of NR/L1/OHS/051: Drugs &amp; Alcohol</p>
<p><strong>DURATION</strong><br />
The course duration is two days, on the second day you will have the MANDATORY track visit so suitable workwear and personal protective equipment should be worn, including safety footwear which you should bring with you if you have them.<strong> </strong></p>

<td><strong>Course Overview</strong>The Controller of Site Safety initial course is designed with the focus upon the role of the delegate within the scope of implementing safe systems of work, whilst attaining and understanding of how to utilise the available resources required “whilst on or near the line”.This course is essential for personnel who are to control a group of people “whilst on or near the line”.<strong>Candidate Requirements</strong></p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>That the candidate currently holds a valid Sentinel Safety Card.</li>
<li>That the candidate’s suitability has been verified by their line manager.</li>
<li>It is the responsibility of delegates’ Local Manager to decide upon their suitability to attend this course, in accordance with the current issue of NR/L2/CTM/021 – Competence and Training in Track Safety<strong>.</strong></li>
<li>That the candidate is in possession of a current Personal Track Safety Logbook.</li>
</ul>
<p>The course is designed to cater for a maximum of <strong>EIGHT</strong> candidates only.</p>

<li>Implement Rule Book GE/RT8000 procedures T2/T3/T4/T12.</li>
<li>Understand the importance of briefings and communications protocols.</li>
<li>How to conduct emergency protection of a railway line.</li>
<li>Identify and understand the role of the Rail Incident Officer (RIO).</li>
<li>To be issued with a Overhead Line Permit (OLP) and understand its condition of issue.</li>
<li>To be issued with a Conductor Rail Permit (CRP) and understand its condition of issue.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Certification</strong></p>
<p>Upon successful completion of the course and any additional modules the National Competency Control Agency (NCCA) will be informed of a decision of competence and the candidate will be issued with a new Sentinel card.</td>
